It’s not ever really 3-dog night cold here…
…in Mexico, but it certainly has been 1-cat cold. So, I had to get a cat. Of course. Since meeting the effervescent Dulce, I had been considering getting a cat, but I was firm on wanting to rescue one. What was saving me was that I didn’t know the words in Spanish for “animal shelter”.  Then, […]
Late night banana-cart chronicles
It was late. Not so late that the streets were empty, but empty enough for a lone roasted banana-cart salesman. From outside my front window, I heard a screaming whistle that impelled me to the front window to investigate. Looking down to the street I immediately recognized the source, but it was still a strange […]
This is getting to be a problem.
The home office and my stash of Swiss chocolate are a dangerous combo. Also, there is one block of gruyere left as well, but the cheese has been easier to make last because I don’t always have time to get down to the one good bakery where I can get the bread that the cheese […]
My resolve is wavering.
And there is only a cat named Dulce to blame. She’s not mine, but I’m not sure that I can resist. I was going to hold fast to being a volunteer without a pet, but what am I supposed to do? I’ve got all this space and it would be pretty great to have a […]
October Welcome – in progress
Those training materials are useful after all
Training, and the accompanying cold took me down hard last week, much harder than I expected when I felt the first tickle in my throat last Tuesday. I am finally feeling a bit of relief and I can actually imagine feeling like myself again with my energy back, but I’m not feeling enough relief and […]
Out of the fire and into something…
This week is Early In-Service Training. That’s all I can say about that right now, except that tomorrow is my “presentation” on my center and how the first 3 months have gone. I’ve been feeling a bit prickly about it, but hopefully I don’t come away too burned. Enough with the semi-puns now and I had […]
Training treat
Here’s what I treated myself to today after a pretty good 20k training run: One side peanut butter, banana, and honey. One side peanut butter, Nutella, and banana. Oh peanut butter and Nutella, I have to keep running this much to justify our relationship. This isn’t the best food shot that I’ve taken recently (thank […]
It’s called being prepared
While I’m still waiting for my gas tank to be fixed, it turns out that I had a bit of gas left. I expect to run out at any second, so I had to prioritize my usage. First, light the pilot and heat water for a hot shower, and second, make coffee for the morning.
Ode to a flour tortilla
You make the best quesadilla. I’m sorry that I ever doubted you.
That’s not supposed to happen
I was considered riffing off of my compatriot’s posts on gas (http://mikeboldrick.wordpress.com/2011/06/30/im-alive-but-i-have-gas/ or http://mikeboldrick.wordpress.com/2011/07/12/hot-water/), because I discovered the reason that I went through what should have been 3 months worth of gas in 5 weeks. Â My gas tank has a leak. Using the latest high-tech techniques in soap-and-water spray technology, I discovered that the connectors […]
